In conversations with survivors, we've discovered a common need to share experiences, learn from others' successes, and gain insights from professionals. The Not What Defines Us community aims to address these needs by providing sharing support and resources.

By joining our community, our hope is that members find a sense of belonging and unwavering support from a compassionate network of peers. Here, you'll find valuable insights and firsthand experiences to guide you through unfamiliar territory, offering solace, understanding and support during a journey you never anticipated and don't want to be on.

Our community provides a safe haven where members can share stories without fear of judgment, fostering an environment of empathy and mutual respect. As you move forward in your healing process, you have the opportunity to not only receive support but also to offer support to others who may be on a similar path.

Is there any cost to join or be a member of this community?

Every sexual assault survivor deserves access to support, regardless of financial circumstances. While there is a donation request to join if you can afford it, we want to assure you that no survivor will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

If you're unable to contribute financially, we wholeheartedly welcome you to join us and receive the support and resources you deserve. Together, we're committed to creating a space where survivors can heal, thrive, and find solidarity in their journeys.


Why do I have to provide an email address if this is truly an anonymous community?

Not What Defines Us prioritizes the safety and privacy of our members. While we understand the concern about providing an email address, it's a necessary step to ensure the integrity and security of our platform.

Unlike social media groups, we've chosen to create a dedicated online community specifically tailored for survivors. This decision comes with associated costs, including maintaining a secure platform to help protect your anonymity and privacy.

We will never sell or misuse your email address. We may occasionally send you emails for purposes such as welcoming you to the community, sharing important information, or checking in on your well-being. However, you have the option to opt-out of these emails at any time.
